ONLINE Resources
HCPSS.me Howard County Public Schools (HCPSS) has provided access to a variety of databases that can be accessed at home through the https://hcpss.me/ website. Here is how to get onto the databases:
1. Once on the https://hcpss.me/ page, click on MackinVIA. It has a rainbow wheel icon.
2. Students will need to log in with their usernames and passwords (active directory information).
3. When MackinVIA loads, choose “Databases” on the left-hand toolbar. There is a globe icon next to it.
4. There you will see all of the databases HCPSS subscribes to. For elementary school students, I recommend the following options:
a. Britannica School Edition (elementary version)
b. CultureGrams
c. DK Find Out!
d. Howard County Library System (gives you links to the public library’s databases)
e. Kids Infobits
f. PebbleGo
g. True Flix (username and password are both: Elkelem)
h. TumbleBooks
Another fun, read-aloud website is Storyline Online. It has a variety of books read by actors and actresses. Students may also continue to do Typing Agent and Dreambox at home as well to practice typing skills and math facts. In addition, Capstone Publishing has provided a free curated list of books related to germs and staying healthy. To access this list with your child(ren), please to go to:
1. http://www.mycapstonelibrary.com/login/
2. To log in, click the green “Log In” button.
3. Choose “Log in with Capstone Interactive.”
